From the oldest times, the Carpathian Mountains have been the source of many legends and myths. From blood-sucking vampires, to invincible kings and beautiful princesses, these mountains have seen it all. Although they are not as high as the Himalaya or as famous as the Alps, the Carpathians are probably the wildest mountain chains in Europe. Not only do they house the continent’s greatest big carnivore population (bears, wolves and lynx), but also the last virgin forests in Europe. All of these make Romania and these mountains, a hiker’s paradise.
